Is It Ever Too Late or Too Early to Enrich Your Life?

Charles Scott, an Executive Mentor, recently sent this note to the ~1,300 members of his Go Beyond community:

The writer Albert Schweitzer said, “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” In his new book, “Enrich: Create Wealth in Time, Money and Meaning,” Todd Miller offers a framework to achieve this very success.

Full of practical tips and inspiring stories, this new book is an excellent resource for anyone interested in crafting a meaningful life in an intentional way.

I’ve known Todd for over 30 years. We were roommates in college, and we’ve stayed in regular touch over the decades. He’s done a number of impressive things in his life: he adopted a baby despite significant bureaucratic hurdles; he was CEO of Asia’s largest regional broadcaster; and he cycled across two continents. Todd’s message in his new book reflects the animating energy behind his own life choices: “It is never too late or too early to enrich your life.”

I visited Todd at his beach home in Thailand when he was developing the ideas that would come to life in this book. We spent hours talking beside a sparkling sea, enveloped within the rhythmic roar of waves rolling in and receding – an invigorating environment in which to explore the process of designing a life full of vitality and purpose. Todd incorporated some anecdotes from my own professional journey into this book, emphasizing in particular my decision to “reject the default setting” of a corporate career, and to help others to live life more fully.

“Enrich” offers a framework to improve your life financially, professionally and personally, focused on the following questions:

Career is important, but is it enough? Is career an end or a means?

What is my legacy?

How can I enhance my quality of life?

What is success, and how much is enough?

How do I prevent work from crowding out life?

How do I insulate myself from a significant shock, such as job loss or market crash?

The book guides you to take control, own your future and enrich your life. As I read it, I felt a surge of energy that led to a list of action items I’m implementing right now. If you’re interested in enriching your life, this book is for you.

Keep growing,

– Charles Scott
